Make Your eBay Item Different from All the Copy Cats - By Gary R. Ferguson

With the thousands of listings on eBay every day, it is very difficult to list truly unique items. As most people know, the more unique your item, the more likely you are to receive higher bids. So how can you make your item unique from the competition?

It is actually quite easy and in most cases it does not cost you anything. It is a relatively easy way to add an additional benefit and incentive to the bidder to bid on your action.

So what can it be?

Free shipping? No, many sellers do that, so that won’t make your listing unique. In addition, it will eat into your profits.

So what can you do?

You can include a free copy of an eBook, eReport, or tip sheet related to the item you are selling.

For example, assume you are selling CDs. There are dozens of sellers probably selling the exact same item on any particular day, but if you can find or write a simple ebook, on “How to care for music CDs”, or “How to rip a CD for your iPod” or “How to repair scratched CDs,” etc. Now include this report free with your auction. It is even better if this ebook is actually being sold on the Internet. Be sure to include the resale for the eBook in your listing.

For example:

The Winning bidder will receive a free copy of “How to fix scratched CDs”. This $9.97 ebook will be included free when payment has been received.

So why does this work? First, it provides an added value to the bidder. Not only do they get the item they are bidding on, but they are getting additional information on how to use the item better, cheaper, faster, etc. It’s a benefit for the buyer that actually costs you nothing.

Second, given the size of auction sites, it is very hard to sell truly unique items. There are probably hundreds of sellers selling the same item that you are. But if you provide additional value by including one of these informational products with your item, you are in front of the competition.

You can even add more than one info product if the item being listed is a higher priced item. Just make sure the information is really valuable to the buyer.

Make sure any of these free info products you include are loaded with your contact information: email address, website, auction id, and links to your listing or other products you may have for sale online.
