The EBay Sellers Guide - By Delecia Meza

Maybe you want to stay at home with your baby, or supplement your income; perhaps you want to make a few extra bucks for spending money. EBay is definitely a great tool for you!

I started out selling used baby clothes on eBay and after 7 years of off and on selling I have turned my eBay Business into a profitable one. Sure, I am not getting rich off of it, though some folks have, but I am more then Supplementing my income, and I get to work around my kids schedules etc.

So how do you get started selling on EBay? What do I need to know first?
First off, you need to have an idea of what you want to sell? Do you want to sell your kids gently used clothes?
Do you like going to Garage sales and finding unique items? Perhaps you make your own product(s)?

There are a couple things you will need before you start selling on EBay though: I have outlined them below.

1) To register an account on EBay go to ebay.com and click on the register link that is below the top navigation and
Follow the step by step process for creating a seller account.

2) Its not required, but definitely recommended that you have a digital camera so that you can take pictures of the item(s) That you are selling. When people shop on eBay, they need to be able to see a visual of your item, they need to be able Get close-ups and see the detail of the item. You can find a nice yet affordable digital camera at most any electronic store.

3) A picture hosting account, again this is not required but I highly recommend it. This way your pictures are not hosted on EBay, and do know that EBay charges for hosting your pictures. You get your FIRST picture FREE and then it cost .15 cents
For each additional picture with EBay. It might not sound like a lot, but believe me, It ads up quickly. I generally have between 5 to 8 pictures in each of my auctions. I recommend trying picturetrail.com

Now that you have done the above steps it is time to get started creating your first listing. You also need to know what your Terms are, if you accept refunds or returns, how much you charge for shipping, if you charge a handling fee, and most Importantly what methods of payment you accept. One of the most popular forms of payments on eBay is paypal.
Whatever you do, research your payment methods before using them, and make sure that they fit your needs!

Ok, now that you've got that out of the way it's time to get going on your first listing.

8 Reasons Why It Didn't Sell On eBay - By Dave Bromley

There are people out there who believe that you can sell anything on eBay. And that may well be true but not if you adopt a lazy approach to your listings. A listing is an advertisement for the product or item that you are trying to sell, an item that you are hoping to get the best price for. And if you are to succeed in this you need to spend some time working on your listings and do not become a “lazy lister”.

There are 8 easy ways to spot a “lazy lister” and the first and most obvious is the listing without a photograph. I would find it difficult to imagine any listing, which would not benefit from some sort of photograph either to act as an attention grabber or to show the item you are selling.

Almost as bad as this is the poor quality photograph possibly blurred, out of focus and showing little detail. In these days of cheap quality digital cameras there is no excuse for poor photographs.

The big percentage of buyers these days use Paypal as their chosen payment method and yet you still find sellers who will not accept Paypal. I suspect it is because they do not want to pay the charges but this is a case of cutting off your nose to spite your face. You will lose more because your item does not reach its highest possible price than it would cost you in payment charges. Not accepting Paypal is a real false economy.

Your actual description is short and lacks detail. In the advertising world there is a saying, “The more you tell, the more you sell”. But looking at some listings you would think that eBay charged by the word. If you want the best price tell potential bidders as much as you possibly can about the item.

Also you should avoid a listing full of hype words and slogans. Tremendous, fantastic and similar words do little for a listing and often bring into question the sellers credibility.

There are 2 great mistakes when it comes to shipping. You can give no indication of your shipping charges, which is bad, or even worse you can try and make extra profit by inflating your shipping charges. In either case you are going to put off potential bidders.

Finally if you really want to ensure that your item does not sell start off with a really inflated opening bid price. This is a real winner if you want to have the item left on your hands. Remember, if you start low the market will find the correct price level so do not be afraid to start with a low opening price.

If you are guilty of any of the “lazy listers” bad habits do something now and maybe you will not get so many “Item Not Sold” e-mails from eBay.

Antique Actions on EBay, Yahoo, etc. - By Walter Scheu

I am going to concede the fact that everyone knows how to get online and sell Antique at Actions on EBay, Yahoo. Since I cannot imbed links to the auction site you will have to get to the site on your own.

Antique (Latin: antiquus; old) is a collectible item which is old (usually at least 100 years old) and is collected or desirable because of its age, rarity, condition, utility, or other unique features. It is an object which has reached an age which makes it a witness of a previous era in human society. Antiques are usually objects which show some degree of craftsmanship, or a certain attention to design such as a desk or the early automobile. In a consumer society, an antique is above all an object whose atypical construction and age give it a market value superior to similar objects of recent manufacture. Any historical museum makes a considerable use of antiques in order to illustrate historical events and give them a practical context. Just about any object can become an antique if it survives long enough, but value of an antique in the market place is determined by its appeal and social acceptance

Antique trade associations are formed and operate for the purpose of promoting the standards of honesty, quality, and good public relations and to promote improved relations among members and the general public. Shops carry 75% antiques or old collectible merchandise.

Antique traders have learned that the power of buying and selling at auction is really very simple. When the bidding stops and the hammer fall, the value of an item is set. The buyer, not the seller, sets the price. This simple distinction cuts through all the chitchat about what art, antiques and collectibles are really worth.

There are auctions of exceptionally strong antique sales featuring estates from all over the USA and virtually every country on this planet, with emphasis on Period furniture; Fine Art; Antique Toys; Country Store & Advertising; Rare Books; Weapons; Americana; Garden & Architectural; Jewelry; Nautical; Weathervanes & other Folk Art & much, more. All of which can be sold at eBay, online, or other places. My suggestion would be to go online and do a search for “antique auctions” and go from there.

To assess if a fair price is being asked, compare the price to that quoted by online auction guides for similar antiques that have recently been auctioned. These guides are usually helpful tools to estimate the value of an antique for both buyers and sellers. Sites should also offer a full refund if you end up with a reproduction instead of the real thing. Some sites only offer refunds for a limited period, but this should give you enough time to have the item appraised. As an alternative, paying a little extra to have an antique appraised before purchasing it online is well worth the cost and the knowledge that what you are buying is genuine.

Walter Scheu Th.D. Writes reviews for and about products, services, etc., that may be seen on the internet. He and his bride run a small family farm in North Carolina. On the farm they also run an Import and Export business, and sell online. This article is about a product we know to be a good one selling antiques online at auctions, is a good idea. Hopefully you have found this article intersting and desire more information. PLease be so kind as to follow this link: http://www.importingforauctions.com

Fetch Easy Money With Old Dog Pictures - By H. Tim Sevets

Did you know that dogs can put food on your table?

I'm not talking about teaching a dog to cook or set the table, nor am I setting you up for some tasteless joke about dining on household pets. This is about making money with a dog business--but one that does not require you to deal with actual, living animals in any way, shape or form. The business? Selling pictures of dogs to dog lovers and art collectors.

The best thing about this business is that you can find your stock--pictures of dogs--extremely cheaply, sometimes even for free. Then you sell them at a premium online, on eBay, for example.

Some people make a living selling prints, drawings and photographs that appear in old books bought at flea markets, from thrift stores or from online sellers. The astounding fact is, you can oftentimes sell a single image from an old book for many multiples of what it cost you to acquire the book. The trick is knowing how to target enthusiasts looking for the subject of a particular image.

Undeniably, one of the best-selling picture subjects is dogs. Some people like all kinds of dog pictures. Others like to collect pictures of one breed. For example, a fan of Labrador retrievers may have hundreds or even thousands of framed paintings and prints of Labs.

Many books about dogs were published in the 19th and early 20th centuries that contained gorgeous color plates of various breeds. Let's say you get hold of one of these books, and it contains 20 or 30 such plates. If you carefully remove the plates, and mat them individually, you may be able to sell them for upwards of fifty or a hundred dollars each on eBay. Do the math and you can see that you will pull in a lot more money than you would have by selling the book itself.

The most prized old dog prints are those that feature hunting dogs. But images of almost any kind of dog can be sold for a handsome profit on eBay.

Other popular subjects for this type of business include sailing ships, antique cars, pastoral scenes, world cities and horses, among others. To be successful, you should take the time to learn where to find old books with the images that are proven to sell. You should also learn how to remove the images to avoid damaging them, and how to mount them to attract the highest bidding when you list them on eBay.

If you're seeking a novel way to make money on the Internet, the dog may truly be your best friend.

Get the Best Out of Your eBay Auctions - By Philip Rudy

You can’t just throw up an eBay listing and expect it to be successful - or in other words - successful as it SHOULD be. There is competition for every single item that you may think you can put up for. Think you’ve got the secret product that no one has thought of yet - think again. You could probably find my 3rd grade pair of underwear that someone dug out of my trash on there… It’s that competitive.

So if your just going to throw something up and not put the time and research it takes to making your eBay listing as successful as possible then you might as well go flush a $20 bill down your toilet. There are simple steps that you should follow every single time you start up an eBay listing. It should be a routine thing you do, other wise your wasting your eBay products! These steps are as followed:

1. The first thing you should do before you even think about listing your eBay product is RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH. Google your eBay product. Look to see what your local store, or other websites are selling your eBay product for. You NEED to know what you SHOULD be making for your product. After your general research is over the next thing you need to do, is to do your research on eBay. Find out what price other eBay sellers are selling your eBay product for. Make sure you look at the eBay sellers that seem to be doing the best. What sets them apart from other eBay sellers? You are going to be doing a lot of copying when your on eBay. Sam Walton (the founder of Wal-Mart) once said, “Most everything I have done has been copied off of someone else.”

2. Find out how much it is going to cost to ship your eBay product out.

3. Take great, not good, pictures of your item. Sometimes taking pictures with you yourself in the picture can help. Why? - Because people like to know that they’re buying from actual people on eBay.
Use good colors. Orange, green, blue, and red seem to work really well (there is a reason that the eBay logo has all of those colors in it).

4. You want your listings to last as long as possible, which would mean selecting the ten day listing, even though it costs ten cents. Three day listings and seven day listings are good for some things but the longer the amount of time you have your eBay auctions listed for, the more the people will see it - and even if they don’t bid right away (remember that most bidding occurs within the last couple hours, or sometimes minutes, of your eBay auction) they might mark your eBay product for watching and bid on it later.

5. Timing is very important. When are the most amount of people online? I’d say from experience, that the best time to have your auction end is on a Sunday evening, preferably between 5-10 p.m. So if you live on the East Coast and your listing something on eBay, then you should list it at 5 right? - Wrong, keep in mind that the west coast is 3 or more hours behind!! Listing at 9 o’clock p.m. would probably be better. If your buyers are from other countries, keep in mind the time zones that they in as well.

Make this a habit. You should be doing this every time you set up an eBay auction. If you do so, you will more than likely maximize your profits on each and every eBay Listing.

Sell Your Stuff - An Online Guide to Selling on Ebay - By Jamie Jefferson

EBay is one of the most successful and versatile auction sites on the web. Whether you are simply cleaning out your attic or you are embarking on a new work at home career, here are a few things that eBay insiders already know:

1. Your eBay reputation is of major significance. Many bidders will consult feedback from your customers before placing bids, so you’ll want to acquire lots of positive feedback to maintain an excellent rating. This means being a courteous and conscientious seller.

2. Descriptions sell. Pictures are wonderful, but they may not show every detail. That's why accurate descriptions are important. Most buyers know that used items are not in perfect condition. Be sure to describe chips, scratches, holes or any other defects. If you do happen to be selling collectible items, such as baseball cards or beanie babies that you have kept packaged and in mint condition, mention that in the title or heading.

3. Photograph your items carefully. When taking snapshots of your items, be sure there’s plenty of light and clean or polish them first. Create a pleasant background and use a flash whenever possible. Dark, fuzzy, hazy pictures are boring and will not pull in the viewer’s attention. Many sellers post photographs taken from various angles showing the front, back and any markings, if they’re selling highly desirable items such as collectible glassware.

4. Communicate well with potential buyers. Some potential buyers will write to ask questions about the article for sale. Be prepared, attentive and responsive. Do your research so that you’ll be able to answer their questions quickly. Remember, a minor detail to you may be very important to the buyer and may mean the difference between a successful sale and no sale at all.

5. Ship with care. When packaging delicate items, be sure to pad each one carefully using Styrofoam popcorn or bubble wrap, and plug any exposed areas using crumpled up newspaper. Glassware should be placed in boxes at least four inches apart and away from the sides, top and bottom to ensure safe delivery. Mark the outside of the carton “Fragile” and “Handle with Care.”

6. Know the ins and outs of insurance. No matter how careful you are, there’s always the possibility of breakage when shipping certain items, so it is a good idea to familiarize yourself beforehand with the claim process.

Getting serious about eBay

If you are serious about making money from your eBay selling, you will need to become adept at researching the eBay marketplace, especially before you decide which products you want to sell.

Here are some guidelines:

1. Search for the most popular categories. Look at the number of listings that exist under each category. Then look to see how many bids the products have.

2. Choose no more than one or two categories, especially when you are first starting out. When you are an expert in your niche, you build credibility and trust with your buyers.

3. Examine the ratings of the sellers who are listing products in each category. Read their profiles. See how many products they are currently selling and how many products they have sold in the past.

4. Analyze prices. Become an expert in your chosen category and know at which price a product is worth buying, as well as the expected final winning price of your auction.

Finding More Products to Sell

Here are a couple of additional considerations once you have exhausted your attic and need more products to sell.

1. Consider Dropshipping. Dropshippers will sell you products at wholesale and send them to the address that you specify. On these items, you will not need to carry an inventory yourself, which minimizes your investment. After the auction is complete, you simply send your dropshipper the customer's address.

If you decide to use a dropshipper, you need to make sure that your auction's winning price is sufficiently higher than the wholesale price you pay for the items. At minimum, you should expect to double your costs.

It's also important to use care with companies that claim to be dropshippers. Do your research and work only with legitimate drop shippers, which are either the product manufacturers themselves or authorized wholesale distributors. If a so-called dropshipper asks you to place a minimum order or to pay a fee to set up your drop shipping account, consider it a red flag.

2. Buy from eBay. Many successful eBayers know how to buy at a good price on eBay and then sell the same products at a higher price. If you know your niche well, you can find opportunities that will allow you to buy and resell for a profit. Here again, research is essential.

3. Import Asiatic products. If you are willing to carry an inventory, you can invest in Asiatic products for a low price and resell for a profit. You can easily start importing Asiatic products from the Internet at Alibaba.com

4. Sell local products. If you live in an area that produces local products that can be bought at a cheap price and then shipped to other areas, where people would pay more, you should take advantage of the situation. What kinds of unique local products do you find yourself taking for granted?

Purse Problems - eBay and the Designer Handbag Tidal Wave - By Nick Hayek

eBay is facing pressure from the big designer handbag companies to restrict listings that promote replicas as authentic and violate trademark rights. Ebays reaction to this pressure was the seemingly arbitrary removal of any handbag listing that remotely looked like it might be illegal. As a result of the handbag listing removal process, many legitimate designer handbag auctions were removed along with some sellers being suspended.

After some good research, I finally found a legitimate dealer of designer handbags, which I believed met eBays standards. I was a Power Seller with a high feedback rating and a good percentage. Believing all was well, I listed some Fendi and Prada handbags only to find that my account had been suspended and all auctions removed for violating eBay policy.

Now I do not fault eBay for attempting to deal with all the misrepresentation and scamming that goes on in its auctions, especially with such popular name designer handbags. I do however question their methods, which seemingly punish the true blue honest seller. I had no intent of selling replicas or fake designer handbags.

As I poured through the popular designer handbag forums reading some of the handbag sellers thoughts, questions and concerns as to what to do next, I came to the conclusion that many of them were as confused as I am. I believe that eBay owes some loyalty to those legitimate and honest designer handbag sellers who have worked very hard to maintain good- to- excellent customer feedback and who have probably paid eBay thousands of dollars in listing fees, a chance to be fairly heard. eBay needs to be specific about what it is they want in their listings so the honest sellers can adapt to eBays guidelines, not shoot first and ask questions later.

So it seems this is the response after the LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior companies file a lawsuit against eBay, saying that almost 90 percent of the designer handbags listed were fakes. eBay suggests its up to the trademark companies to point this out. Now after the lawsuit, several legitimate eBay designer handbag sellers along with who knows how many replica listings were removed. I am all for the fact of having these replica listings removed. Suspending honest hard working people without giving them a chance to defend or explain themselves is hardly beneficial to either eBay or the designer handbag retailers involved. If eBay is willing to change is stance and truly listen to us honest sellers and allow us to adapt to their policies and rules all again would be rosy in the eBay world.

So where do we go from here? If we are to rectify this situation, I believe we should contact eBay and continue to ask for specific reasons as to why our designer handbag listings were removed and also ask what we can do as sellers to avoid this type of occurrence in the future. There is weight in numbers

It leaves me thinking where does the designer handbag community go, there are not really any other mediums that deliver the true sales power of eBay. Classified ad sites like Craigslist seem to come at a far second compared to the auction giant. For years I relied on this auction listing process like many others to provide a good marketing medium to my customers and to provide myself with a full-time income suddenly to be washed away by the big designer handbag tidal wave.

Import Imports Importing Procedures - By Walter Scheu

IMPORT POLICY

The following is a brief overview of the import, importing and imports how too. It is not meant to be a definitive explanation. Only as an interest peaking point concerning the import topic.

For items not mentioned as being import Prohibited, Restricted or Canalized List for import in ITC(HS) Classification of Export and Import items; import of such items are freely permitted. There is no need to obtain any import license or permission for importing such goods. The ITC (HS) Classification of Export and Import items contain 99 chapters and in each chapter there are column heading covering Exim Code, items description, policy and nature or restriction. The information related to import policy for any item can be obtained from our site under Customs Duty Calculator Schedule.

Selecting the commodity and/or product you want to import, be aware of the import potential and the commercial viability of the commodity/product.

Check whether the items of your import interest fall in the restricted list of ITC (HS) Classifications of Exports & Imports items. Prohibited (import) items are not permitted to be imported at all. List of Prohibited items of import are detailed below:
Tallow, Fat or Oils rendered, unrendered or otherwise of any animal origin, animal rennet and wild animals including their parts and products and ivory any part and products, including ivory.

For import of items appearing in restricted list you need secure import license. Third category of items comes under the Canalized list of items. Import of items included in Canalized list is permitted to be imported through Canalizing Agencies.
Thus items not appearing in Prohibited list, restricted list and or in Canalized list can be imported freely without any import license. A large number of Consumer goods are free for import without license

The procedure to be followed to import is this. Bill of Entry must be filed in the prescribed form by the Import or his authorized agent giving the prescribed details such as name and address of the importer, importer code, name address and license number of the Custom House Agent, name of vessel, Rotation Number and date, Line Number, port of shipment, country of origin, country of consignment, number of Bill of Lading, description of packages, number of packages, quantity of goods, description of goods, Customs Tariff Heading, details of exemption from customs duty claimed, invoice number, and value, etc. A declaration that the details are true and there is no other document showing contrary information must also be given. The Bill of Entry may be signed by the importer himself or his Custom House Agent.

You have just seen a very very brief article about how to go about taking part in the import arena. Import work and/or activities can be fun, profitable and Simple. It is not as hard as some would make you think it is.

Walter Scheu writes reviews for and about products, services, etc., that may be seen on the internet. While his wife and he run a farm in North Carolina, they also import goods that are sold on eBay and other sites, both online and offline. Choosing Between Paid and Free Online Auction Sites - By Stephen Pavis

For those individuals who want to sell their wares and products over the Internet, they can take full advantage of auction sites. There are free and paid auction sites that they can join. Also, online auction sites list the products in categories so that users can easily search for what they want, and sellers can easily locate which category their products most likely fit.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Free and Paid Online Auction Sites

Free online auction sites do not require any fee before you become a member. You need only to exert effort and invest in time to get your products posted there. Free online auction sites are also more lenient than paid sites, allowing sellers and bidders to transact businesses personally and outside the site. But one disadvantage about free auction sites though is that you are only given limited slots or limited image hosting space to post your products since most of these free auction sites are small.

Paid auction sites, on the other hand, obviously require a membership fee, but once you have joined a paid auction site, you enjoy its full benefits like unlimited slots for your products. You can even post pictures of your items since they have a larger database than free auction sites. Their disadvantage though is that transactions are done within their site alone.

What You Should Know

Selling and buying at auction sites are fun since you most likely will find what you are looking for, but before you do that, here are some things you should know.

You should read the guidelines and rules of the auction site you will choose. Because you have the risk of not getting the item you want from the seller, it is important that you understand where the online auction site stands on an event like this. The same goes for the seller. He gets a high bid but then the buyer decides not to purchase the item.

Be wary of who you are dealing with. It is best to use another email than the one you always use so that you will not inadvertently reveal any personal information. Before making a purchase, it is also recommended that you review the testimonials from other buyers about the seller. It is how you can best gauge a buyer,s credibility.

For sellers, it is important that you answer questions any buyer might have like item and shipping costs as it is considered unprofessional if you delay things like this or not give a reply.

Lastly, never disclose your password to anybody so as to protect your personal information and your wallet.
